Violin Lessons – Intonation Problems

Problems of intonation are either physical or mental in tha area of violin lessons. The Physical ones have already been touched upon in previous chapters. Two of them stand out: sluggishness within the left elbow, which impedes the simple movement of the hand over the finger-board, and excessive pressure by the fingers for making high speed changes to notes struck inti tally out of tune. After all all that has been said concerning the body normally and also the left hand in specific applies to problems of intonation: we are again involved with tension states and adequate nervous response. The mental issues are to try and do with merely listening. It could seem naive to assert that dangerous intonation is caused by a player not taking note of what he plays.
